STOP. PLAY. GO.
Ever slid into your seat for a tedious meeting and spent your time deciding what’s for dinner? We all have. And if that’s not you at this meeting, it’s sure-as-shit one of your workmates. So why not stop-before-you-go with these easy ways to get focussed, fired up and singing from the same song book.
SIXTY SECONDS OF ZEN
Most meetings are squished between other ones. Important inputs, urgent actions, lists upon lists for cerebral filing. Why not stop and focus.
Sixty seconds of Zen is a simple way to pause the hamster wheel and return to the real world. Just set a clock, impose a silence and focus on the why of what you’re doing. Easy.
ENERGY CLAP
Need to build buzz and spike collaboration? Create an energy clap. Just stand in a circle and lock eyes with the person on your left and clap. Then clap the energy onto the next person.
As the clap darts around the circle, the secret is locking eyes to keep it alive. Do it slow, try it faster, then start sending the clap across the room. Eyes, clap, energy. Easy.
SUPERHERO POWER UP
There’s nothing like a superhero to add a little energy. So why not make one up? Get everyone to introduce their inner hero (e.g. “Broccoli Boy”) and their secret move.
Once you’re familiar, send the power round the room with as much energy as possible. “Desk Destroyer” (karate chop) to “Icy Fran” (spirit fingers). Imagine the fun… or just try it.
THE SECRET’S IN THE STOP
Whether it’s sixty seconds of Zen, or the Windmill arms of Wacky Wendy, the secret is stopping before you start to focus on the task in hand. All of these games do the same job online – and whichever you choose, your team will feel centred and supercharged, ready to tackle any problem as a team – your own unique brand of Avengers.
